The name of our company, after the river in Kenya, is symbolic of Galana’s strategy: we aim to rank as the leading independent operator in the oil industry for the region that spans the Indian Ocean islands, East Africa and southern Africa.

Established in 1991, Galana rapidly expanded its operations in international oil products trading, bringing the producers of the Middle East together with customers in the Indian Ocean, in the East Africa and in the southern Africa region.

In 2000, the Group embarked upon a strategy of industrial integration backed by the acquisition of assets being privatized by the government of Madagascar, such as oil terminals and refining and marketing infrastructure.

Having developed its presence in most segments of the oil industry, the Galana Group is now the leading independent company in the Indian Ocean region. This position is further strengthened by Galana’s ownership of the region’s only refinery with immediate access to an oil terminal.

As an independent operator, Galana intends to pursue its regional growth in coming years through a sustained and significant investment program.
